Become a library user

Aalborg University Library is a state-owned research library and all our branches are open to the public. Although the library's primary task is to support research and teaching at Aalborg University, all permanent residents of Denmark can become users.

As a user at Aalborg University Library, you can borrow, request and pick up printed books and journals from all our branches.

PLEASE NOTE that online access to purchased electronic resources only includes the group of employees and students at Aalborg University. However, most of the resources can be used for private use by so-called "walk-in use" (use on site) at our branches; however, not when using your own IT equipment.

AAU staff

All AAU staff with a valid AAU-Username are automatically granted a library user account. Your account allows you to log into Primo, where you can request printed material and get online access to our electronic resources. We recommend all AAU staff to order an AAUcard, which will serve as your library card. Once you activate the card and create a pin code, you are set up to use the library's self-service machines for checkout and return.

AAU staff without an AAUcard cannot immediately use our self-service machines, nor can they sign up for our department delivery service. You cannot use guest access cards in the library.

AAU Ph.d

AAU PhD students are ranked alongside with AAU staff whether you are on the university's payroll or not. External PhD students and Industrial PhD students must ensure that department recruitment procedures are in order.

All AAU staff with a valid AAU-Username are automatically granted a library user account. AAU student

AAU students are registered as library users automatically. Your AAUcard is your library card. Once your card has been activated, and you have created a pin code, it is ready for use at the library's self-service machines.

If you are studying single subjects at AAU, you will not automatically be registered as a user. If, in addition to online access, you need to borrow printed material from the library, you must select "Start from the beginning" and then register as a private person.

Guest lecturer / AAU affiliate

Guest lecturers and AAU affiliates are often supplied with a guest access-card. Such cards cannot serve as a library card.

You must fill in the form below to register as library user. We will hand out or send you a personal library card. You must select a pin code for the card. The card number will serve as your user ID and must be used whenever you log in to our search engine Primo (Log in with library card). You will receive an e-mail regarding password. Your pin code is for use at the self-service machines only.

Private individual

Private individuals must fill in the form below to register as library user. We will hand out or send you a personal library card. You must select a pin code for the card. The card number will serve as your user ID and must be used whenever you log in to our search engine Primo (Log in with library card). You will receive an e-mail regarding password. Your pin code is for use at the self-service machines only. Minors who want to become library users must have approval by guardian. Please contact the library in advance.

Users residing in the municipalities of Aalborg, Esbjerg, Copenhagen and the suburban municipalities must pick up ordered material at one of our branches. Users living outside these areas can have ordered books sent directly to their home address. You must pay the return postage and adhere to the loan period. I want to have loans sent.
